Top Holiday Escapes That'll Recharge Your Batteries
Summer is just around the corner (and for the rest of us on the other side of the world… well, brace yourselves for winter!) and if you’re like me, I’m dreaming of drenching myself under the hot sun and my toes rubbing against some of the finest white sand the world has to offer, grab an ice-cold lager and wash it down with a plate of sisig by the beach.
There are a ton of destinations to choose from for your perfect summer/winter vacation, but here are 4 spots that might tickle your fancy:
Forget about Boracay. The once famed party beach which was loved to the brink of death re-opened late last year after being closed for 6 months for a major clean-up. While the beaches now look immaculate with crystal clear waters, I’d give it a good 2 years for full rehabilitation towards sustainable tourism. I would look up Palawan Island instead. The Philippines' largest island was rated the world's best island in 2013 and 2015, so you be the judge of that for 2020.
Palawan island is known as “The Last Ecological Frontier of the Philippines”. The northern part is characterized by incredibly clear waters, white beaches, and many species of flora and fauna. At the northern part of the island are most visited places like El Nido and Taytay.
Koh Rong is an island in the Sihanoukville Province of Cambodia. It’s known for its sandy coves and coral reefs, like those around Koh Rong Pier. Inland, the dense jungle terrain is dotted with coconut palms and waterfalls. There are a multitude of activities for both nature lovers and partygoers and a healthy list of accommodations to suit your budget from guesthouses to luxury resorts and everything in between. Quarter-life crisis? This could be the remedy!
The Mentawai islands in Indonesia is a true surfers paradise, move over Bali! With the combination of remote, tropical islands, warm crystal-clear waters and world-class waves, it could be your dream surf destination and it’s rated as one of the best surf spots in the world. The Mentawai Islands Regency are a chain of about seventy islands and islets approximately 150 kilometers off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. While it's famed for being a surfer’s paradise, There are a plethora of accommodations and leisure activities to suit your budget as well as child-friendly resorts suitable for family vacations.
Rawa Island is a coral island in Mersing District, Johor, Malaysia. Very little is known about this island as most holiday goers usually end up spending their vacation in overly popular places like Langkawi, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian or Penang. Compared to other islands, Rawa is relatively small. There are no proper roads, only a few walkways. One side of the island is a beach covered with extremely fine white sand, while the other side has a rocky vertical cliff. The island is surrounded by mesmerising coral reefs and the interior is completely covered with lush tropical rainforest. There are only 2 resorts on this island, Alang’s Rawa Resort and Rawa Island Resort with the latter being a more family-friendly resort. This is a perfect holiday getaway for families and probably the best and closest beach destination, especially for Singaporeans!
