A balanced, healthy microbiome for total immunity
Know your Microbiome
There’s a community of about 38 trillion microorganisms, mostly bacteria, living in and on your body. The genes contained in these trillions of bacteria make up your microbiome.
You have key microbiome sites in your gut, your mouth, on your skin, in your armpits and they all have a different bacterial make up. The bacteria that live in each site are essential to our health and wellbeing.
Your microbiome is unique to you, just like your genetic makeup. And it changes depending on factors such as diet, exercise, medicine, and even sleep can all impact and alter the composition of your microbiome on a daily basis.
The mouth and throat are the gateway to the rest of the body, so the health of the oral microbiome is really important for overall health and wellbeing too – not just the gut microbiome.
YOU are a superorganism! A walking, talking ecosystem – half human, half microbes – so it makes sense to look after your microbes just as much as you look after everything else in and on your body.
The immune system is the group of cells and molecules that protect us from sickness by responding to any foreign substances they perceive as threats. The immune system and the gut microbiota work in partnership, regulating and supporting each other’s activity. The importance of this interaction is clearly highlighted by the fact that 70–80% of the body’s immune cells are found in the gut.
A well-functioning healthy immune system is balancing act for your body. If your immune system is under-prepared, it may not respond fast enough when faced with immune threats. However, your body also needs to support and respond to the demands of living a fast-paced lifestyle, often redirecting energy and resources that otherwise would be used for immunity. This tug of war means we sometimes need to help our bodies protect us by providing extra support – bolstering our good bacteria is a good place to start.
The dialogue between the immune system and the microbiota starts the moment our body gets in contact with microbes—at birth. As we grow, the microbiota shapes the development of our immune system, and the immune system shapes the composition of the microbiota. This communication and mutual regulation is maintained throughout life and is the key for a healthy interaction between the microbiota and the immune system. Nurturing a healthy microbiome is important for protecting our body and allowing us to perform at our best.
Stay on the Ball
Probiotics support the immune system by providing beneficial immune supporting bacteria to the body. Not all probiotic strains work in the same way but there are many scientifically tested ones out there (such as the ones contained in UltraBLIS) that can help optimise your microbiome and therefore support your immunity.
Work with Confidence
While a high proportion of your immune system resides in your gut – there is a key area of your body that has a major influence on what comes into your body: the mouth and throat. All the things you encounter through your mouth and nose can introduce all sorts of bugs to your body. BLIS K12™ is a probiotic strain that specifically supports the immunity of your mouth and throat. When you combine that with highly researched strains such as HN019 and La14, you can be confident you are getting a great supplement for the health of your immune system.
Lift your Game
Lots of things can influence how your immune system is functioning: the amount of sleep you get, your diet and nutrition, how much exercise you do, hormones, stress and even how much sunlight you experience. With super busy lives, it's really hard to keep all of those things balanced and it is easy to become susceptible to bugs. UltraBLIS has been designed to optimise your gut microbiome AND your oral microbiome so it’s the ultimate combination to support your immunity.
